Sooooooo I missed the majority of the BET Awards last night but that didn’t’ stop me from formulating an overall opinion of the show.
Let’s get into it…The Whitney Houston tribute by far was the best Whitney tribute that I’ve seen thus far and one of the most heartfelt tributes that I‘ve ever seen. Whitney’s tribute trumps all other tributes simply because Mrs. Cissy Houston took to the stage and sang! The mere fact that Mrs. Houston chose the BET awards, of any awards show, to vocally solute her daughter speaks volumes. I know Janet Jackson contributed to Michael’s tribute but come on, Cissy Houston?! I loved that all performers, including Mariah, were personally connected to Whitney. I kinnnnnnnnnnda wanted to see Mariah perform but her appearance was very appropriate and warming although I question her not attending Whitney’s funeral.Anywho, Monica Brown blew out her performance. I loved that she chose that song and did it well. Miss Brandy served Whitney well. Who knew an upbeat song of Whitney’s would be so fitting from her. I don’t think that will or should be the last time we hear that song from Brandy.
Let me just say here that I was very WRONG in predicting Beyoncé’s tribute performance. If you follow me on Twitter you may know that I dayum near assured folks that she would perform and possibly Monica (half right...give me my credit). Now I will take ALL credit for predicting that Brandy would perform during the show after seeing her mom in the audience. I knew once I saw Mrs. Norwood, and Ray J in a suit, that B Rocka would hit that stage.Other than the tribute I thought the show was an improvement. I was able to see parts of the show in silence because it was televised at the venue I was at. By far, Kanye and G.O.O.D Music was the best performace (saw the video) behind the Whitney tribute. Loved Usher's performance as well (saw the video).
I absolutely hated the sound guy, nothing new , which is still an improvement BET has yet to correct. I’d like to know where I can apply for ALL the jobs of the people who dropped the ball last night. Someone is going to lose their job behind not censoring half the “slip ups” last night.Chris Brown did okay for Chris Brown fans I guess. It was hard for me to get into his set with all the thug shits he’s been doing lately yet he was out there shaking his tail feather like his report card depended on it. He needs to stay in his lane and I’ll stay in mine.I actually liked the show minus missing the majority of it and the bad sound. Samuel Jackson was not as good as I had expected and his tacky attitude at the end of the show was so uncalled for. Yeah I know he’s Sam Jackson and doesn’t mince words but please…did he not know that he had to do at least a snippet of the after show? Did BET not alert him of this? Even if BET dropped the ball he should have had enough common sense and tact to do the after show and not act like an ass and above doing it. He sucked at hosting and I would have much rather see Kevin Hart again. If you care to know who all the winners were last night I suggest you go to another blog. All you need to know is that Nicki Minaj won AGAIN, Reverend Al Sharpton along with Frankie Beverly were honored and the Roc was in the building. I will get into King Jay Z and Queen Beyoncé taking the throne last night while introducing Kim Kardashian to the urban world in a WHOLE ‘notha post...
Wait!!! Was I the only one hoping that Ray J would flip the f**k out? Seeing his
